2015-2016 Dallas Ski Club Officers & Directors:

Dick Gromel
Dick grew up near Wilkes-Barre, PA but with the Military and American Airlines lived in many places including Germany where he tried skiing a few times in Garmisch,with limited success. Forty years later he joined the DSC and gave skiing one more try. Doing much better this time; he's sorry he waited so long. Moved to Arlington, Texas and has 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. He enjoys reading, gardening, skiing, and traveling in the U.S. and Europe.

Ed Cox
Ed grew up in Austin, Tx, then moved to Houston in 1977 to start a 38 year career in the window covering business. He left for Dallas/ Ft Worth in 1986 where he ran a blind manufacturing company that he eventually bought and ran until selling it in 2009. He now works part time in the retail end of the same business. Ed has been an avid skier for 21 years, and a Dallas Ski Club member since 2005. He averages around 30 days a year on the slopes. His wife of 33 years (JoAnn) has served on the ski club board, and besides skiing, she is a serious tennis player!

Laurel Levin
Laurel was born in Dallas and has lived here most of her life, which includes getting a BA in Economics from SMU. She has a doggie daycare, Urban Paws, in Deep Ellum, keeping her busy. Laurel joined the Dallas Ski Club in 2011, looking for ski buddies and good friends. Travel has always been her passion along with the great outdoors.

Betty Graham
Betty is a native Texan. She grew up in a small farming community in west Texas.  Betty moved to Dallas in 1987.  She has worked for Daisy Brand (the best sour cream and cottage cheese company) for 25 years and is looking forward to retirement soon.  Betty joined the Dallas Ski Club in 2008.  She enjoys traveling, reading, skiing, biking, hiking and spending time with her granddaughter.

Bob Ziegler
 As a former pilot for Delta Airlines, Bob moved to North Dallas in1984 and has three children. He is originally from Southern Illinois and attended college in Kansas City, MO before joining the Air Force. After retiring from Delta and corporate flying, Bob joined the Ski Club in 2014 and has been on several ski trips. He has helped out leading trips and enjoys playing golf when the snow melts. Traveling with the Ski Club and enjoying the variety of amenities available as a Dallasite are the leisure activities that he most enjoys.

Joan Houck


Joan grew up in middle Iowa as part of a large family. Travel was not part of her life then so after finishing school she was off to San Francisco to work for United Airlines and the opportunity to travel. Her first big trip while working with the airlines was to Europe for three weeks vacation. Not all travel was a vacation though. After marriage and the birth of her daughter, the family lived in California on three different occasions, and to Hawaii, New Jersey, New Hampshire and finally settled in Dallas in 1973. Since moving to Dallas Joan earned her Real Estate agent and brokers licenses. Joan is married to Charles Rowland (past president) whom she started dating on a ski trip to Innsbruck 25 years ago. Joan has previously served as DSC VP of Happy Hours in 2006-2007.

Judy ZumBerge

As a Native Dallas Girl, I grew up in east Dallas, lived in Lake Highlands for over 30 years and moved to Plano in 1995.  I have 3 wonderful sons, two living here in the Dallas area and one living in Los Angeles Most of my extended family lives in the DFW area.  I have been a single Mom for many years and have one son that has special needs.  I volunteer with Special Olympics and other organizations that help others.  I am looking forward to weddings and Grandchildren someday.

In the olden days I worked in reservations for Braniff Airlines from 1972 to 1982.  That time in my life was a beginning of my love for travel and snow skiing.  My husband and I organized ski trips for adults and teens from our church for many years.  I have been skiing for over 35 years and still love it to this day.  My employment in the travel industry gave us a tremendous opportunity to travel the world.  I continue to enjoy new adventures as much as possible. 

I enjoy entertaining and have several large parties a year at my home.  I have always enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends.  I am presently single and have enjoyed meeting new friends in the Dallas Ski Club.   I look forward to many good times together!

Susanna Lione

Susanna discovered skiing as a young adult and eventually teaching beginners and children at Jack Frost Mountain in the Pocono’s – where her twins began to ski at age three.  When holidays and work are not involving snow, hobbies and interests include: Jewelry Design – Susanna is a trained Goldsmith and has an online retail gallery, Italian cooking- a native Italian this is her go to favorite. Along with running and golf for when there is no snow to get to.
Karen Yocum
Karen grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore and graduated from the U of MD with a degree in accounting. She arrived in Texas in 1978 where she raised three sons. Now her six grandchildren bring her much joy. She enjoys traveling, playing golf, and volunteering.
Lynn Fellman
Lynn Beattie, aka Lynn Fellman, is a Pennsylvania girl who came to Dallas in the early ‘90s via Detroit and San Francisco. After a career in sales and delivery of corporate IT services and traveling worldwide, she is almost retired. Her interests keep her busy with real estate ventures, travel, executive coaching and her five kids and six—soon to be seven! —grandkids.

Ellen Eakin
Ellen is a Texan...born and raised. She moved to the Dallas area in 1992 to a job in healthcare consulting. Ellen joined the Dallas Ski Club in the late 90's...she has been on many DSC trips...even got engaged on a summer DSC cruise to the Caribbean. Ellen has been on the board previously and has been a trip leader. She and her husband, John (whom she met through the DSC) live north of Dallas where they have a small horse breeding operation. Her activities include skiing of course, horses, gardening, cooking and tennis.
